Privacy Policy for Burnout Buddy
Effective Date: Aug 25, 2026 Last Updated: Aug 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Burnout Buddy (“the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use our mobile application. We built Burnout Buddy to be a gentle, low-pressure tool, and that philosophy extends to how we handle your data: we collect as little as possible, and what we do collect stays on your device wherever we can manage it.
By using Burnout Buddy, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information Stored Locally on Your Device
Burnout Buddy stores the following information directly on your device using local storage. This information is not transmitted to us or to any server we control:
- Energy level selections
- Tasks you create, along with their completion status
- Daily completed task counts
- Streak counts and total lifetime task counts
- App preferences (dark mode setting, reminder intervals, wake/sleep hours, notification settings)
- Premium/ad-free unlock status
Because this data lives only on your device, we have no ability to view, access, back up, or recover it. If you uninstall the App or clear its storage, this information is permanently deleted.
1.2 Information We Do Not Collect
We do not require account creation, and we do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or other contact information
- Your precise or approximate location
- Health records, medical diagnoses, or clinical information
- Any information from your device’s contacts, photos, or files
Burnout Buddy is a self-help productivity tool and is not a medical device. Any wellness-related content in the App (energy check-ins, task suggestions, affirmations) is provided for general informational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical or mental health advice.
1.3 Notifications
If you enable reminders, the App schedules local notifications directly on your device (for example, through your device’s notification system). These reminders are generated and delivered on-device and are not sent through, or logged by, any server we operate.
2. Third-Party Services
2.1 Advertising (Non-Premium Users)
If you are using the free version of the App, we display advertisements served through Google AdSense/AdMob. Google may collect and process certain information — such as advertising identifiers, device information, and usage data — to serve and measure ads, including personalized ads where permitted.
We do not control this data collection. We encourage you to review:
You may be able to opt out of personalized advertising through your device’s ad settings (e.g., “Limit Ad Tracking” on iOS or “Opt out of Ads Personalization” on Android).
2.2 Premium Unlock / Donations
The App allows you to unlock a premium, ad-free experience by making a donation through third-party platforms (such as Buy Me a Coffee, Ko-fi, or PayPal) and entering an unlock code. When you tap a donation link, you leave the App and are directed to that third party’s website or app, where their own privacy policy and terms apply. We do not receive or store your payment information — we have no access to your card details, billing address, or transaction history. Unlock codes are validated locally on your device.
2.3 Other Links
The App may contain links to external websites (such as donation platforms). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these third-party sites.
3. How We Use Information
Because nearly all App data is stored locally on your device and not transmitted to us, we generally have nothing to “use” — the data exists solely to power the App’s features on your device (tracking your tasks, streaks, and preferences from one session to the next).
Where third-party services (like advertising) do collect data as described in Section 2, that data is used by those providers for the purposes described in their own privacy policies (e.g., ad delivery, fraud prevention, analytics).
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share locally-stored App data with third parties, because we do not have access to it in the first place.
The only data shared with outside parties is the advertising-related data described in Section 2.1, which is collected directly by Google, not by us.
We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets — in which case we will make reasonable efforts to notify users of any material change to this policy.
5. Data Security
Because App data (tasks, streaks, preferences) is stored locally on your device, its security depends in large part on your device’s own security features (passcode, biometric lock, encryption, etc.). We recommend keeping your device’s operating system up to date and using a secure lock screen.
6. Children’s Privacy
Burnout Buddy is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the App does not collect personal information directly, and locally-stored data never leaves the device, there is minimal risk of a child’s personal information being transmitted to us. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information in violation of this policy, please contact us so we can address it.
7. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your information, such as the right to access, correct, or delete it, or to object to certain processing (for example, under the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA/CPRA in California).
Because App data lives on your device:
- To delete your data: Clear the App’s storage/cache in your device settings, or uninstall the App. This permanently removes all locally-stored data.
- To limit ad personalization: Use your device’s ad settings as described in Section 2.1.
- For data collected by third parties (like Google), please refer to their privacy policies for how to exercise your rights with them directly.
If you have questions about your rights, contact us using the information in Section 10.
8. International Users
If you use the App outside of Canada please note that any data processed by third-party services described in this policy (such as Google’s advertising services) may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, in accordance with those providers’ privacy policies.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, provide additional notice (such as an in-app notification). We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
10. Contact Us

This policy is intended to reflect current App Store and Google Play requirements for privacy disclosures, including data collection transparency, third-party service disclosures, and children’s privacy provisions. It is provided as a starting template and should be reviewed by a qualified legal professional before publishing, especially if the App’s data practices change (e.g., if you add account creation, analytics SDKs, or cloud sync in the future).
